Color analysis quiz

Find your
season.

3 min 13 questions

You'll answer thirteen questions about your natural coloring. Based on your responses, this quiz places you in one of four seasons and points you toward a likely sub-season.

Take quiz in daylight
Sit near a window before you start. Artificial light distorts undertone.
Remove makeup
Foundation masks your natural undertone. Bare skin gives the most accurate read.
Grab a White Sheet of Paper
One question asks you to hold a plain white sheet next to your face. Sounds odd, but it makes warm vs. cool much easier to spot.
Natural hair color
If hair is dyed, answer questions based on your roots or natural hair color.
Honest note

Gets most people into the right family. Sub-season is harder — in-person draping is still the gold standard.

What color are your veins on the inside of your wrist?

Step near your window before answering — natural light makes this much easier to read.

Which jewelry metal do you look the best in?

Whichever makes your skin look more alive is usually the answer.

Does pure white flatter your face — or wash you out?

Hold a sheet of white paper near your bare face in window light and look at your skin. If your skin looks clearer and fresher, pure white suits you. If the white seems to take over or dim your face, cream tones will serve you better.

What is your skin's natural undertone?

Hold your wrist next to a piece of white paper in window light. Does your skin pull warm — peachy, golden, or caramel — or cool — pink, rosy, or slightly blue? If neither is obvious, a neutral undertone is probably your answer.

When you spend time in the sun, your skin tends to...

Think about what your skin does naturally, before sunscreen. This is a strong cross-check on your undertone.

In natural light, what tone do your hair highlights lean toward?

Look at the lightest strands of your natural (or root) hair in sunlight.
Light or deep  ·  1 of 3

What is your natural hair color at its lightest?

Think about your natural color before any dye — or your root color now.

How much does your hair contrast with your skin?

How light or deep is your natural skin tone?

Look at your bare face and hands in natural daylight — your year-round tone, not a summer tan.

Look closely at your eyes. How would you describe them?

Which color is closest to your iris?

In window light, look at your eye color and pick the closest match — even if it's not perfect. This is an independent check on your brightness dimension.

When you wear a bold, saturated color, what tends to happen?

Think cobalt blue, cherry red, or bright fuchsia — colors with no grey in them. Go by what you actually see in the mirror, not what you usually reach for.

When you wear soft, dusty colors, what tends to happen?

Think sage green, dusty rose, heather grey, mauve — colors that look mixed with a drop of grey. Not sure? Grab something like a heather-grey tee and hold it under your chin in daylight. Signs it flatters: your skin looks even and your eyes stand out. Signs it drains: your face looks flat and the first thing you notice is the shirt.
